Floorball Bench Bank Passes on the Move
A floorball-specific warm-up where each player stickhandles the ball and passes it off a gym bench turned on its side, then collects the rebound on the run like a give-and-go. It activates stickhandling, passing, and receiving at a rising tempo.
How to play
- Turn 4 gym benches on their sides, seat facing the court, along the sidelines and 3 m from a line of cones. Groups of 6 per bench, each player with a stick and ball.
- Stickhandling (2 min): weave the ball through 4 cones using both sides of the blade and return to the line on the outside.
- Bench pass (2 min): stickhandle 5 m, pass diagonally off the bench, and collect the rebound on the run by cushioning with the blade; finish at the last cone.
- Two bank passes (2 min): repeat with two passes off the bench, one forehand and one backhand.
- Bank pass and shoot (2 min): after the second bank pass, shoot into a target zone marked by two cones at the end.
- Challenge (2 min): how many bank passes in a row without losing the ball can each player make in 30 seconds while moving along the bench?
Rules
- The blade never goes above the knee, when stickhandling or passing.
- No one leaves the line until the player ahead has made the first bank pass.
- No kicking the ball, except to stop it once.
- Benches sit firmly and no one stands on them.
Variations
Easier
Pass off the bench from a standstill and receive without running.
Standard
Bank passes on the move at medium speed, forehand and backhand.
Harder
One-touch bank passes while stickhandling heads-up and calling out the color of the cone the teacher points to.
Adaptations
- Wheelchair users: a short stick and passes off a nearby bench on a shorter course.
- Visual impairment: a high-contrast ball and a partner's verbal cue on the rebound.
- Less experienced players: stickhandle at a jog with one bank pass per trip.
Learning goals
- Activate stickhandling and passing on the move.
- Control the ball on the rebound.
- Follow stick safety rules.
Equipment for a class of 25
- floorball sticks: 25
- floorball balls: 25
- gym benches: 4
- cones: 16
Teacher tip
If benches slide when hit, brace the back of them against the gym wall. The typical error is stopping to receive; cue 'catch it on the run.'
