Floorball 4-on-3 Power Play
Floorball game situations in which one team attacks with four players against three defenders and a goalie, like a power play after a penalty. Students work on quick ball movement, finding the open player and defending in a triangle.
How to play
- Split the gym into two half courts with a small goal at each end. In each half, 4 attackers face 3 defenders and 1 goalie; others wait on the sideline (3 min).
- The attack starts at the center line with the ball and has 30 seconds to shoot. A goal scores 2; if the defense wins the ball and carries it past the center line, it scores 1 (6 min).
- After each attack a new group of four attacks and defenders rotate, so every student plays offense, defense and goalie.
- 2-minute tactical timeout: the defense explains how it closed the middle in a triangle and the offense how it found the open player.
- Second round with a condition: a goal only counts if at least three different attackers touched the ball first (7 min). Finish by tallying points by group (2 min).
Rules
- The stick may never go above the waist on any shot or carry.
- No hitting, lifting or hooking an opponent's stick, and no kicking the ball twice in a row.
- The goalie plays without a stick, kneeling or standing, and no hard shots from closer than 10 ft.
Variations
Easier
4-on-2 with 40 seconds to shoot.
Standard
4-on-3 with 30 seconds to shoot.
Harder
20-second attacks, and the defense scores double for a steal in its own half.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: plays as a fixed shooter in a protected zone where nobody can defend them.
- Shy students: give a clear role, such as the center passer, so they always know what to do.
- Advanced players: may only pass, not shoot, to involve others.
Learning goals
- Move the ball quickly to find the open player.
- Defend while outnumbered by closing central passing lanes.
- Analyze how to take advantage of a numbers advantage.

Teacher tip
Use three pinnie colors to tell offense, defense and waiting players apart. Keep reminding students of the low-stick rule; it is the main safety rule in school floorball.
