Fitness with Music: Aerobic Step
Step aerobics: students learn basic steps on the platform to the beat of the music and combine them into a 32-count routine. They work on aerobic endurance, rhythm and coordination.
How to play
- Set the steps in rows facing the teacher with about 3 ft between them, adjust the height and explain placing the whole foot (3 min).
- 3-minute warm-up marching in place and side-stepping on the floor.
- Basic step: up right-left, down right-left; repeat 8 times, switching the lead leg (4 min).
- V-step, knee-up and side step on the platform, each practiced in 8-count blocks (6 min).
- Combine steps into two 16-count blocks and link them into a 32-count routine repeated several times (7 min).
- Cool down with easy marching and calf and quad stretches (2 min).
Rules
- Whole foot on the step, never just the toes.
- About 3 ft of space between steps.
- Don't step down backward without looking.
- Shoes tied and water nearby.
Variations
Easier
Step without risers and slower-tempo music.
Standard
8-count combinations with the step at medium height.
Harder
Longer, faster-tempo routine with arm moves on every step.
Adaptations
- Knee problems: steps on the floor without a platform.
- Limited mobility: seated arm choreography following the same counts.
- Hearing impairment or difficulty with rhythm: the teacher signals each change with a visible gesture.
Learning goals
- Improve aerobic endurance.
- Develop rhythm and coordination.
- Memorize and perform a simple routine.
Equipment for a class of 25
- aerobic steps: 25
- music player and speaker: 1
Teacher tip
Call each step change 4 counts ahead and face the class mirror-style so students don't mix up left and right.

Accuracy Circuit with Cloth Targets
Accuracy stations with cloth targets on the floor and on the wall, where students toss bean bags and score points by ring. They work on throwing accuracy and matching force to distance.
Acrosport in Groups of 4
Partner and group stunts (acrosport) in groups of 4: building simple human pyramids and balances with bases, flyers and spotters while following safety rules. Students develop strength, balance, cooperation and creativity by linking poses together.

6v6 volleyball with adapted rules so the ball stays in play longer and the whole team takes part: catching is allowed on the first contact and serves come from closer in. Students practice the set, the forearm pass (bump), the serve and rotation.
Adapted Beach Handball
An adapted beach handball game with a soft ball: no dribbling, three steps with the ball, and double points for spectacular goals such as jump or spin shots. It develops throwing, passing and team play in a fun, safe way.
Adapted Beach Volleyball 2v2
Modified 2v2 beach volleyball with a foam ball and portable net on small courts. Students work on the set and forearm pass, communication with a partner and cooperation to build a rally.
Adapted School Triathlon
An adapted school triathlon that links a run, jump rope and a skills circuit, with transitions in a marked zone. Students build endurance, manage their pace and practice switching quickly between tasks.
