Everybody's It Flag Pull with a Football
An everybody's-it game inside a square: each student carries a football and wears two flags, trying to pull other players' flags without letting go of their own ball. Students work on protecting the ball, agility, and spatial awareness.
How to play
- Mark a 15 x 15 m (about 50 x 50 ft) square with cones and place a hoop in the center as the flag bank. Every student wears a two-flag belt and holds a foam football (1 min).
- On the whistle, everyone moves around inside the square trying to pull other players' flags with one hand while holding their football against the chest with the other.
- Drop each pulled flag in the center hoop for a point. A student with no flags left grabs two from the hoop, does 3 squats outside, and jumps back in.
- Play 2-minute rounds with 30 seconds of rest. If you drop your ball, you give one of your flags to the hoop.
- In round three switch hands, and in round four shrink the square to 10 x 10 m.
- At the end, everyone shares their best score and the class talks about protecting flags by turning the hips instead of using hands (1 min).
Rules
- Grab flags only: no pushing, holding arms, or knocking the ball away.
- Stepping out of the square to escape costs you one flag.
- Safety: play at a fast walk or jog, never an all-out sprint, and keep your head up.
Variations
Easier
Play at a walk with only half the class wearing flags while the other half does the pulling.
Standard
Everybody's it, with a ball in one hand and two flags, as described.
Harder
Everyone wears three flags and must carry the ball in the non-dominant hand.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: a student using a wheelchair attaches flags to the armrests, and others may only approach at a walk.
- Visual impairment: play in a smaller square with a sighted guide who calls out when someone is coming.
- Fitness level: a student who needs a break can run the flag bank for one round and count incoming flags.
Learning goals
- Protect the ball while moving through a crowd.
- Read open space and change direction to avoid approaching players.
- Accept losing a flag and keep playing with a positive attitude.
Equipment for a class of 25
- flag belts: 25
- foam footballs: 25
- cones: 4
- hoops: 1
Teacher tip
Start with a large square to avoid collisions. If someone tucks flags into their shorts, remind them flags must hang free.
