End-Zone Soccer: Stop the Ball on the Line
5v5 with no goals where you score by dribbling into an end zone and stopping the ball inside it. Builds dribbling under pressure, getting open and attacking open space.
How to play
- Three 30 x 20 m fields with 3 m end zones; teams of 5 (3 min).
- Explain: you score by dribbling into the zone and stopping the ball with your sole (2 min).
- 6-minute 5v5 game (6 min).
- New rule: a pass received inside the zone and trapped also counts, but only for a player who hasn't scored yet (6 min).
- Final game: any point that follows a switch of play from one side to the other counts double (8 min).
Rules
- Nobody may defend inside the end zone.
- To score, the ball must be stopped under the sole inside the zone.
- No contact; tackle the ball only.
- Kick-ins along the ground instead of throw-ins.
Variations
Easier
Wider end zone and 5v4.
Standard
5v5 dribble-in scoring.
Harder
2 m end zone and a four-touch maximum.
Adaptations
- Visual impairment: end zone marked with a thin mat or rope that can be felt underfoot.
- Limited mobility: scores by carrying the ball on the lap into the zone; no stealing within 2 m.
- Students lacking confidence: may score by receiving in the zone from the first game.
Learning goals
- Dribble into open space.
- Get open in the end zone to receive.
- Switch play toward the weak side.
Equipment for a class of 25
- soccer balls: 3
- cones: 24
- pinnies: 15
Teacher tip
Mark end zones with a different cone color. Typical issue: everyone chases the ball; point to the empty side and ask "who's over there?".
