End-of-Unit Assessment Challenge: One Criterion per Station
A team assessment challenge to close a unit: six stations, each tied to a criterion the class has worked on (technical skill, tactics, fitness, rules, cooperation and safety). At each station a judge from another team checks whether the challenge is met at the required quality; if not, the team gets a hint and may try once more before moving on.
How to play
- Explain the course, the team card with the six stations and the role of judges, who take turns between teams (4 min).
- Form six teams of five; each team names a judge who stays at one station during the first half with the criteria sheet (2 min).
- First half: teams rotate through three stations, 4 minutes each including the attempt, the hint and a possible second try (12 min).
- Judges switch so those who judged now compete with their team (1 min).
- Second half: the remaining three stations in the same format (12 min).
- Each team reviews its card, marks the challenges passed on the first try and those that needed a hint, and chooses one to work on again (4 min).
Rules
- A challenge only counts if every team member takes part.
- At the fitness station, each person chooses their own load or number of reps.
- Walk between stations.
- The judge always explains why a challenge was not met and gives the hint listed on the sheet.
Variations
Easier
Use four stations, and each challenge may be repeated twice.
Standard
Six criterion-based stations, a judge from another team and one retry with a hint.
Harder
Challenges must be passed on the first try for full credit, and some are chained against the clock.
Adaptations
- Wheelchair user: each station has an accessible version ready, and the team decides how to include it in the challenge.
- Visual impairment: challenge cards are read aloud, and sound or high-contrast equipment is used.
- Autism: gets the station map and the team's order in advance.
Learning goals
- Show the unit's learning as a team in practical situations.
- Judge another team's performance with clear criteria.
- Recognize which skills are solid and which need more work.

Teacher tip
Prepare judge sheets with the criterion, the success condition and the written hint, so judging is consistent. Adapt the six challenges to the specific content of the unit you are closing.
