Count and Jump: Seven With a Twist
In circles of six to eight, the group counts out loud in turns, and on every multiple of seven or number containing a seven, you do a movement instead of saying it. It works on attention, coordination and reacting under light pressure.
How to play
- Form standing circles in open spots and practice a normal count (2 min).
- Seven rule: on multiples of 7 and numbers with a 7, jump instead of saying the number (3 min).
- Add five: on multiples of 5, clap overhead; if both apply, jump and clap (4 min).
- Every jump reverses the circle's direction (4 min).
- Final challenge: reach 50 with no mistakes as a group (2 min).
Rules
- A mistake means one squat and the circle restarts from 1.
- No one is knocked out.
- Jump in place without crowding your neighbor.
- Others correct only by saying the number, no teasing.
Variations
Easier
Seven only, no direction change.
Standard
Seven and five with different moves.
Harder
Seven, five and direction changes together, at a clapped tempo.
Adaptations
- Students with dyscalculia: keep a multiples chart in view.
- Wheelchair users: the jump becomes raising both arms.
- Deaf or hard-of-hearing students: the circle also counts on fingers.
Learning goals
- Hold attention in a task with several rules.
- Respond with the right move at the right moment.
- Accept mistakes without drama.
Teacher tip
Start with a demo circle in front of the class. Groups bigger than eight get slow and boring.
