Consecutive Serve Team Challenge
Each team tries to string together as many good serves in a row as possible; a miss resets the count to zero, but nobody is ever out. Students practice consistent serving, focus under pressure, and supporting teammates.
How to play
- Make 4 teams of 6 or 7; two teams serve from the end line of each court, and the other two shag and return balls (2 min).
- Each team lines up behind the end line with 3 balls; the first player serves and goes to the back of the line (1 min).
- Each serve that lands in adds 1 to the streak; a miss resets it to zero, and the team shouts its best number to pump itself up (4 min).
- After 4 min, servers and shaggers switch roles, and the second group tries to beat the record (4 min).
- Final 3-min round with a set goal: each team announces its streak target, and teams that hit or beat it win (4 min).
Rules
- Serve only when the previous teammate is finished and the shaggers are ready.
- Shaggers stay out of the court while balls are in the air; they wait behind the side cones.
- No laughing at a miss: cheer with the agreed word or gesture.
- Each player picks underhand or overhand but keeps the same serve for the whole round.
Variations
Easier
Serve from 10 ft inside the court, and any ball that clears the net counts.
Standard
Serve from the end line and count the streak of serves landing in.
Harder
A serve counts only if it lands in the back half of the opposite court.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: the student serves from any distance or with a toss, and it counts the same.
- Anxiety or shyness: the student may call "pass" once per round without breaking the streak.
- Higher skill level: must serve overhand or alternate right and left zones.
Learning goals
- Serve consistently under pressure.
- Manage emotions after one's own mistakes and others'.
- Encourage and support teammates.

Teacher tip
Have every server use the same pre-serve routine (two bounces, a breath, look at the target). If a team keeps getting stuck at zero, let them move the line one step in.
