Colpbol: Give-and-Go Support Without Holding the Ball
A colpbol tactics session on the give-and-go and close support, since whoever strikes can't touch the ball again until someone else does. Students learn to offer a passing lane right after striking.
How to play
- Demo: strike, move right away and receive the return; why support in colpbol has to be two or three meters away (3 min).
- Lanes 5 meters wide: 2 vs 1 moving up with give-and-gos; count lanes completed without losing the ball (7 min).
- 3 vs 2 in a wide lane toward a cone goal: the player who neither has the ball nor is the next receiver must already be getting open (7 min).
- 5 vs 5 keep-away on half the court: ten strikes in a row score a point (6 min).
- Each team counts its give-and-gos and picks its best move to get open (2 min).
Rules
- Strikes only; a held ball goes to the other team.
- No one strikes twice in a row.
- In the lanes, the defender intercepts without touching the attacker.
- Groups stay inside their lane so they don't cross.
Variations
Easier
2 vs 1 with a defender who can only walk.
Standard
2 vs 1 and 3 vs 2 with active defenders.
Harder
In keep-away, a give-and-go that beats a defender earns an extra point.
Adaptations
- Students with visual impairments play with an audible ball, and their teammate calls their name before each strike.
- Knee injury: acts as a fixed support at the side of the lane, without moving.
- Hesitant students start as a walking defender who only intercepts slow passes.
Learning goals
- Offer useful support right after striking.
- Use the give-and-go to beat a defender.
- Communicate better while moving the ball.
Equipment for a class of 25
- soft balls: 8
- cones: 24
- pinnies: 15
Teacher tip
Mark the lanes with cones before class to save time. Typical mistake: after striking, the player stands watching the ball; push the strike-and-move habit.
