Clothespin Harvest on Wheels: Collect Without Crashing
A team game on skates or scooters where players collect clothespins from cones around the yard. It calls for speed, stops and sharp spatial awareness with zero contact.
How to play
- Cones spread around the yard with four clothespins each; one hoop base per team in the corners (3 min).
- Round 1: skate or scoot, take one clothespin per trip and drop it in your team's hoop, always counterclockwise (5 min).
- Round 2: each pin color is worth different points and you can only take from cones on the far side (5 min).
- Round 3: on the whistle, everyone stops; anyone not stopped within three seconds returns a pin (5 min).
- Count up, swap skates and scooters, and play a final round with each team's own strategy (7 min).
Rules
- No touching anyone: if there's contact, both players drop their pin at the nearest cone.
- One pin per trip, held in your hand, never your mouth.
- Everyone travels in the same rotation direction.
- Slow down or stop to grab a pin.
Variations
Easier
Fewer players on the court at once and no set direction.
Standard
Three rounds with set direction and whistle stops.
Harder
Clip the pin onto another cone instead of taking it to your base.
Adaptations
- Students with low vision: cones with big pins and a partner rolling alongside.
- Students without skates or a scooter: jog with the same rules over half the distance.
- Wheelchair users: play in their chair with their own cone zone and no crossing traffic.
Learning goals
- Move on wheels with control in a shared space.
- Make route decisions as a team.
- Respect the zero-contact rule.

Teacher tip
With more than 20 people rolling at once, run two waves. Common mistake: bending down for a pin at full speed; clip the pins on top of the cones.
