Class Federation: Traditional Games League
The class becomes a traditional games federation with competition, officiating, equipment and communications committees, and runs a league day with four traditional games at stations. Students plan, referee, play and write up the match report, so the lesson depends on how well they manage it.
How to play
- Set up the federation: each committee gets its role sheet and chooses a lead; game teams mix members from every committee (4 min).
- Committees set up four stations designed in the previous lesson, for example bowling, rana, chito and sack race, and review each station's rules (5 min).
- League day: teams rotate stations every 5 minutes; at each station, two members of the officiating committee who aren't playing that round referee (20 min).
- The competition committee calculates the standings by adding game points and fair-play points, while the communications committee takes notes for the report (3 min).
- Final assembly: each committee discusses what worked and what it would change for the next league day (3 min).
Rules
- The equipment committee checks that every station is safe before starting.
- Station referees rotate so everyone both plays and officiates.
- Fair-play points count as much as winning points.
- Complaints go to the competition committee, never argued at the station.
Variations
Easier
The teacher sets up the stations and students only referee and play.
Standard
A federation with four committees, a league day at stations and a final assembly.
Harder
Organize a league day with another class in the school, with a schedule and official scoresheet.
Adaptations
- Wheelchair user: joins the competition committee, and stations have an adapted throwing line.
- Autism: gets the day's sequence in advance and a fixed role within their committee.
- Hearing impairment: station changes are signaled with a sign or a flag.
Learning goals
- Plan and run a sporting event independently.
- Show leadership and responsibility within a committee.
- Value traditional games as a healthy, active leisure option.
