Carnival Booth Toss Stations with Tickets
The blacktop turns into a carnival with six target booths run by the students themselves, who collect and pay out bottle caps as tickets. Halfway through, booth workers and players switch roles. Students practice accurate throwing, taking turns and responsibility.
How to play
- Set up six booths: bottle bowling, ring toss onto bottles, beanbags into a bucket, one-bounce tennis ball into a bucket, beanbags onto chalk scoring zones and knocking down a bottle pyramid.
- Split the class in half; 12 students work the booths (two per booth) and 13 are visitors with 3 tickets each (2 min).
- Visitors pay one ticket for three throws; for a hit, the worker pays out the number of tickets on the booth sign.
- Booth workers reset equipment, call out their booth and watch the throwing line (10 min carnival).
- On the whistle, roles switch: visitors become workers and take over tidy booths (1 min + 10 min carnival).
- Finish (2 min): count all the class's tickets; if the total beats the starting number, the class picks the game for next lesson.
Rules
- Throw from the marked line and take turns.
- Nobody retrieves equipment until the worker calls "clear."
- Tickets change hands only at a booth, and nobody takes them from anyone.
- Throw at the bottles, never toward people.
Variations
Easier
Move the lines closer and pay one ticket for any hit.
Standard
Six booths with two shifts of workers and visitors.
Harder
Move the lines back and require the non-dominant hand at two booths.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: booths at table height and throwing from a wheelchair.
- Shyness: start as a worker with a partner who calls out the booth.
- Lower skill: two throwing lines per booth to choose the distance.
Learning goals
- Improve accuracy with a variety of throws.
- Take responsibility for running a booth.
- Respect turns and the rules of a trading game.
Equipment for a class of 25
- recycled bottles: 20
- hoops: 6
- beanbags: 12
- tennis balls: 9
- buckets: 3
- bottle caps: 80
Teacher tip
Make big signs with each booth's price and prize. The class ticket total gives everyone a shared goal, so winning individually is not all that matters.
