Blindfolded Target Toss with a Voice Guide
A partner target game: the thrower wears a blindfold, and the guide uses only their voice to help them land a beanbag in a hoop. It builds precise communication, trust in a partner, and adjusting a toss without sight.
How to play
- Make 12-13 pairs, each with a hoop on the floor at 10 feet, 3 beanbags, and a blindfold. All pairs toss in the same direction (2 min).
- The guide turns the thrower toward the hoop and gives direction and force with an agreed code: a clock position and a force from 1 to 5.
- The blindfolded thrower tosses underhand, and the guide describes where it landed: two feet short, one step to the right. After 3 tosses, partners switch.
- In the hoop is 3 points; touching the edge is 1. Each student gets 3 turns, and the pair adds up points (7 min).
- Final challenge (4 min): the guide may only clap, once for harder and twice for softer, and tap a shoulder for direction.
Rules
- The blindfolded thrower does not walk; they only turn in place with the guide's help.
- Nobody retrieves while a thrower is set up in their lane.
- The guide does not move the thrower's arm, only gives verbal cues.
Variations
Easier
Hoop at 6 feet, and the thrower sees the hoop before putting on the blindfold.
Standard
Hoop at 10 feet, a clock-and-force code, and three tosses per turn.
Harder
Two hoops at different distances, and the guide secretly picks which one to aim for.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: toss seated with the guide placing the hoop within reach.
- Visual impairment: the student can be the thrower without a blindfold, or the guide describing landings by sound.
- Shy or anxious about blindfolds: the student may close their eyes instead and open them anytime.
Learning goals
- Give and follow clear instructions to solve a movement task.
- Adjust tossing force without visual information.
- Trust a partner and support them respectfully.
Equipment for a class of 25
- blindfolds: 13
- beanbags: 39
- hoops: 13
Teacher tip
Let each pair invent its own code before starting; that is the richest part. Remind students to remove the blindfold before walking anywhere.
