Base and Back: Corners With a Hand-Fed Shuttle
A feeder hand-throws shuttles to the four corners and the player moves, hits and returns to base. It links badminton footwork with a real stroke.
How to play
- Trios: feeder by the net, player on the center base, collector. Four cones mark the corners (2 min).
- The feeder sends eight shuttles to random corners; the player hits and touches the base cone before the next one. Rotate (6 min).
- Play to rhythm: the feeder only throws once the player is on base (5 min).
- Challenge: each player tries for eight shots back over the net with no misses and no skipped base touch (5 min).
- Easy walk and collect shuttles (2 min).
Rules
- The feeder waits until the player is on base.
- The collector only steps in once the set is finished.
- Rest during feeder and collector turns; nobody does two sets in a row.
Variations
Easier
Front corners only.
Standard
Four corners in random order.
Harder
Six zones, and the feeder may fake before releasing.
Adaptations
- Low vision: the feeder calls the corner before throwing.
- Limited mobility: closer zones and higher feeds for more time.
- Asthma or low fitness: sets of four shuttles with longer rest.
Learning goals
- Combine movement and striking.
- Recover the center position.
- Sustain high effort in short sets.
Equipment for a class of 25
- badminton rackets: 10
- shuttlecocks: 50
- cones: 50
Teacher tip
A bucket or box beside the feeder speeds up collection. With a big group, also use space without nets by tying a rope between two chairs.
