Badminton Net Lift to the Back Corners
In groups of three, a feeder drops the shuttle near the net and the hitter answers with a high lift to one of the two back corners, where a teammate catches it. Students work on the lift, the lunge to the net, and shot depth.
How to play
- Form groups of three: feeder at the net, hitter at the center of their court, and catcher in the opposite back court; mark both back corners with a hoop (2 min).
- The feeder tosses the shuttle softly by hand over the tape, alternating forehand and backhand sides.
- The hitter lunges with the racket-side leg, contacts under the shuttle, and lifts it high toward the corner the catcher calls.
- The catcher tries to catch the shuttle inside the hoop: 2 points for a catch in the hoop, 1 point if it lands behind the long service line.
- Hit sets of 8 shuttles and rotate all three roles; complete 2 full rounds (11 min).
- Final challenge: each group tries to beat its best score in a set of 8 (3 min).
Rules
- The hitter returns to the center of the court after every lift.
- The catcher calls the corner before the feeder releases the shuttle.
- The feeder steps out to the side after tossing.
- Safety: lunge with the knee lined up over the foot, never past the toes.
Variations
Easier
The catcher does not call a corner, and any lift past the long service line counts.
Standard
Lift to the called corner, scoring 2 or 1 point.
Harder
The feeder hits with a racket instead of tossing and mixes short and medium shuttles.
Adaptations
- For students with limited mobility, the feeder places the shuttle within reach so no lunge is needed.
- For students with visual impairments, use brightly colored shuttles and shorten the toss.
- For less fit students, use sets of 5 instead of 8.
Learning goals
- Perform forehand and backhand lifts with a lunge to the net.
- Send the shuttle high and deep to the called corner.
- Recover to the center position after every shot.
Equipment for a class of 25
- rackets: 25
- shuttlecocks: 40
- cones: 12
- hoops: 16
Teacher tip
Remind students that the power comes from forearm rotation, not swinging the whole arm. Line the groups up side by side so everyone hits in the same direction.
