Adapted School Triathlon
An adapted school triathlon that links a run, jump rope and a skills circuit, with transitions in a marked zone. Students build endurance, manage their pace and practice switching quickly between tasks.
How to play
- Mark a 400 m track or a 100 m cone loop, a transition zone with one jump rope per student and a 4-part skills circuit: cone zigzag, two-foot jumps, side shuffle and a final sprint (3 min).
- Explain the order and do a short walk-through of the course (3 min).
- Split the class into two heats; while one competes, the other times in pairs (1 min).
- Heat 1: 400 m run, transition, 100 jump rope skips (can be done in sets) and the skills circuit to the finish (8 min).
- Heat 2 with roles switched: the previous racers time and record each partner's total and split times (8 min).
- Cool down by walking and discuss which leg was the hardest (7 min).
Rules
- Everyone goes at their own pace and may walk if needed.
- Leave the jump rope in its spot in the transition zone, never in the way.
- Walk, don't run, in the transition zone.
- Pass on the outside without pushing.
Variations
Easier
A 200 m run, 50 jump rope skips and a two-part circuit.
Standard
All three full legs: 400 m, 100 skips and the circuit.
Harder
Relay teams of three, one leg each, or a personal target time.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: replace the jump rope with target throws and the run with a wheelchair or walking route.
- Hearing impairment: start each heat with a flag or a dropped arm.
- Low fitness: shorter distances and a goal of finishing without stopping, not a time.
Learning goals
- Sustain continuous effort while linking different tasks.
- Pace each leg to complete the event.
- Time and record a partner's splits accurately.
Equipment for a class of 25
- cones: 20
- stopwatches: 13
- jump ropes: 13
Teacher tip
Check jump rope lengths before class: a rope that's too long makes that leg impossible. Cheer on split times, not just the total.

Accuracy Circuit with Cloth Targets
Accuracy stations with cloth targets on the floor and on the wall, where students toss bean bags and score points by ring. They work on throwing accuracy and matching force to distance.
Acrosport in Groups of 4
Partner and group stunts (acrosport) in groups of 4: building simple human pyramids and balances with bases, flyers and spotters while following safety rules. Students develop strength, balance, cooperation and creativity by linking poses together.
Adapted 6v6 Volleyball
6v6 volleyball with adapted rules so the ball stays in play longer and the whole team takes part: catching is allowed on the first contact and serves come from closer in. Students practice the set, the forearm pass (bump), the serve and rotation.
Adapted Beach Handball
An adapted beach handball game with a soft ball: no dribbling, three steps with the ball, and double points for spectacular goals such as jump or spin shots. It develops throwing, passing and team play in a fun, safe way.
Adapted Beach Volleyball 2v2
Modified 2v2 beach volleyball with a foam ball and portable net on small courts. Students work on the set and forearm pass, communication with a partner and cooperation to build a rally.
Adapted Sport: School Boccia
School boccia: a Paralympic precision sport in which each team tries to get its colored balls as close as possible to the white target ball (the jack). Students work on accuracy, judging force and inclusion.
