Acrosport Showcase with a Student Judging Panel
Acrosport groups perform a short routine for a panel of student judges, who score difficulty, execution, and artistry with a rubric. It builds composition skills, safe stunt building, and critical peer assessment.
How to play
- Form 5 groups of 5. Explain the rubric in 3 minutes: difficulty (number and type of stunts), execution (3-second hold, clean mount and dismount), and artistry (transitions, music, expression), each scored 0 to 5.
- Each group spends 10 minutes building a 60–90 second routine with at least 4 stunts, 2 transitions, an entrance, and an exit, on mats.
- Each group names one judge per category for another group, so every panel has three judges from three outside groups.
- Groups perform in turn with their music (about 2 minutes per group including setup). Judges score on the sheet without talking to each other.
- After each performance, each judge announces their score plus one positive comment and one specific improvement (1 minute per group).
- Each group gets 3 minutes to fix one flagged mistake and repeats only that part. Add up the scores.
Rules
- Only build stunts you've practiced before, with a spotter and on mats.
- Bases support on solid points (hips and shoulders), never on the lower back or neck.
- If a stunt wobbles, dismount under control: safety matters more than the score.
- Judges score respectfully and justify every number.
Variations
Easier
Routine of 3 stunts and only two scoring categories: execution and artistry.
Standard
Routine of 4 stunts and 2 transitions with a three-category panel.
Harder
Require one whole-group stunt and a dynamic traveling transition.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: the student acts as a stable seated base, as head judge, or as the routine designer.
- Autism: assign the execution judge role, with very concrete criteria and a visual scoring sheet.
- Lower strength level: the student acts as a flyer in low stunts or as a spotter, without bearing weight.
Learning goals
- Create an acrosport routine with stunts, transitions, and music.
- Apply safety rules when building and dismounting stunts.
- Assess other groups' work objectively and constructively.
Equipment for a class of 25

- music
- speakers: 1

Teacher tip
Run this once the class is solid on pair and trio stunts. Check every stunt yourself before the performance and watch three-level stunts especially closely.
