Acrosport Height Levels: Floor, Kneeling, Standing
Groups of three or four build the same pyramid at three heights: everyone on the floor, the base kneeling and the base standing. They only move up when the previous level is stable, which teaches safe progression and body control.
How to play
- Groups of 3 or 4 get a card showing one stunt at three heights, for example a plank on a lying base, a flyer standing on a kneeling base's thigh, and a flyer sitting on a standing base's shoulders.
- Floor level (5 minutes): build the low stunt with the group's calls and get three clean 3-second builds in a row.
- The teacher checks each group and clears it for the next level with a thumbs-up.
- Kneeling level (6 minutes): same stunt with the base in a kneeling lunge and the spotter's hands at the flyer's waist.
- Standing level (6 minutes): cleared groups only, always with a spotter and doubled mats. Rotate roles at every level.
- Three-minute wrap-up: each group shows its highest level and explains what they adjusted.
Rules
- No group moves up without the teacher's OK.
- Standing stunts always have a spotter and doubled mats.
- The lightest student flies and the most stable is the base.
- If the stunt wobbles, drop back a level.
Variations
Easier
Stay at the floor and kneeling levels with partner stunts.
Standard
Move through all three levels with three-person stunts and a spotter.
Harder
Design an original stunt at three heights and present it with transitions between levels.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: be a base or spotter at floor level, or design the stunts.
- Autism: provide the card with three numbered drawings and preview the order.
- Lower fitness: stay at the floor and kneeling levels with shorter holds.
Learning goals
- Progress safely through the difficulty of an acrobatic stunt.
- Keep postural control at different pyramid heights.
- Work together to adjust contact points and grips.
Equipment for a class of 25
- mats: 14
- cards: 7
Teacher tip
The temptation is to jump to the standing level: the level check lets you control the pace. Keep high-level groups near you and the wall.
