Acrosport Flow: Linked Stunt Transitions
Groups of four link three simple acrosport stunts, moving from one to the next without fully coming down, with safe builds and dismounts. Students work on body control, group communication, and the flow of a sequence.
How to play
- Make groups of 4 with a double mat per group and spend 3 minutes reviewing roles: base (stable bottom), flyer (climbs up), and spotter (watches and supports).
- Each group picks three two-level stunts from a poster or whiteboard sketch and builds them one at a time, holding each for 5 seconds (6 minutes).
- Teach the transition: from stunt 1, the flyer steps down to an in-between support (knee or floor) and climbs into stunt 2 without the base standing up. Practice both transitions (6 minutes).
- Add music: the full sequence uses 16 counts per stunt, plus an entrance and a final bow (5 minutes of rehearsal).
- Half the groups perform while the other half watches with one question: was it smooth and safe? Then switch (4 minutes).
- Wrap up for 1 minute: each group shares which transition was hardest and why.
Rules
- The flyer only steps on solid spots on the base: hips and shoulders, never the lower back.
- Dismount in reverse order: the last one up is the first one down.
- The spotter is not part of the stunt; they watch and call "coming down" if anyone shakes.
- No stunt goes higher than two levels or is built off the mat.
Variations
Easier
Link only two one-level stunts with a 4-count pause between them.
Standard
Three two-level stunts joined by transitions that never fully return to the floor.
Harder
Four stunts, with the base and flyer switching roles inside the sequence.
Adaptations
- Students with limited mobility: serve as a seated base or as the group director who calls counts and fixes positions.
- Autism or shyness: a stable group chosen by the teacher and a picture card showing the stunts in order so each step is predictable.
- Lower fitness: kneeling-support stunts and 3-second holds.
Learning goals
- Hold stable stunts using a solid base and safe grips.
- Link stunts with smooth transitions to the beat of the music.
- Cooperate by taking on roles and communicating during the build.

Teacher tip
The typical mistake is jumping down; insist that flyers come down the same way they went up. Circulate and check that each base has a flat back before anyone climbs.
