Accuracy Event: Seven Positions in Front of the Frame
An adaptation of the accuracy event from disc competitions: students throw from seven different positions, fanned out at several distances, trying to put the disc through a 1.5 x 1.5 m frame. Each student records their hits, calculates their percentage and sets a goal for the next session.
How to play
- Set up three frames with two poles and two ropes each, and seven cones around each frame at 13, 22 and 31 steps (4 min).
- Explain the format: four throws from each position, any throw type, and a partner counts the hits (2 min).
- Practice round: two throws from the closest position to adjust (3 min).
- Official round in groups of five per frame; while one throws, one counts, one collects discs behind the frame and two wait (12 min).
- Calculate the hit percentage by distance on the sheet and set a personal goal for next time (4 min).
Rules
- The collector goes behind the frame only after the thrower has finished all four throws.
- Frames are placed at least 65 feet apart side to side.
- Poles are planted or held with solid bases so the wind does not knock them over.
- Throw only at your assigned frame.
Variations
Easier
Use only the 13- and 22-step positions with a larger frame.
Standard
Seven positions at three distances with four throws each.
Harder
At each position, use a different throw: backhand, forehand and an overhead throw.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: throws from the close positions, and their percentage is compared only with their own scores.
- Visual impairment: the collector claps from the center of the frame before each throw as a reference.
- Autism: always follows the same sequence of positions, marked with numbers on the cones.
Learning goals
- Improve throwing accuracy at different distances.
- Record and analyze personal performance with percentages.
- Set realistic, personal improvement goals.
Equipment for a class of 25
- flying discs: 15
- poles: 12
- ropes: 6
- cones: 21
- worksheets: 15
Teacher tip
The percentage sheet works as a pre- and post-test for the unit. If it is windy, reposition the frames so everyone throws with the same wind.
