How to play
- Grip and mobility: hold the bottle in both hands with arms straight, slow circles and standing trunk rotations (2 min).
- Stretch challenges: triceps stretch passing the bottle hand to hand behind the head; chest stretch taking it back with a straight arm; in a low lunge, circle the front foot with the bottle without losing balance (3 min).
- Final balance: bottle resting on an open palm, standing on one leg for 20 s per side (1 min).
- Final sip and check-in: take a few calm sips and think about how much water you've had since you got to school; then share with a partner one way to remember to drink during finals (2 min).
Rules
- Use only your own bottle: no sharing.
- Bottle tightly closed during stretches.
- If your bottle is empty or missing, use a pencil case or book and fill up at the fountain at the end.
- Stretch without pain or bouncing.
Variations
Easier
No single-leg balance, and stretches are done seated.
Standard
Full standing sequence.
Harder
Single-leg balance with eyes closed and the bottle on your palm.
Adaptations
- Student with a visual impairment: the teacher or partner describes each position, and balance is done next to a wall.
- Wheelchair user: does the upper-body and trunk stretches seated; balance becomes holding the bottle on an outstretched palm.
- Wrist injury: holds the bottle with the forearm or swaps it for a rolled towel.
Learning goals
- Wind down gradually.
- Practice upper-body stretches that fit study breaks.
- Reinforce the habit of drinking water regularly.
Equipment for a class of 25
- water bottles: 30
Teacher tip
Remind students the day before to bring a bottle, and keep a couple of empty plastic bottles for anyone who forgets so they can fill up at the fountain. The usual mistake is an open bottle, so check before the rotations.
