Your Song, Your Turn Team Warm-Up
Each team is assigned a song; while everyone jogs, the teacher plays random clips, and when a team hears its song it runs to the center to finish a warm-up task before the clip ends. It builds listening, a full warm-up and teamwork.
How to play
- Make 4 teams in different-colored pinnies and assign each team a song. Play 20 seconds of each so teams can recognize theirs.
- Mark a 20-by-20-foot center zone with cones. Everyone jogs easily around the edge of the court.
- Play 30-second clips in random order. When a team's song comes on, that team goes to the center and does its task: 10 squats, 10 jumping jacks and a high-five chain.
- If the whole team finishes before the clip ends, it scores a point and goes back to the edge. Everyone else keeps jogging.
- Every 4 clips, change the task: lunges, mountain climbers, a shuttle sprint or a one-leg balance. Play for about 6 minutes.
- Final clip is a new song for everyone: all 4 teams enter together and do the task at once. Finish walking.
Rules
- Only the team whose song is playing enters the center.
- The team counts reps out loud, and everyone must finish to score.
- Safety: when entering or leaving the center, cross the jogging lane looking for oncoming runners.
- A team that enters by mistake does 5 jumping jacks and goes back without scoring.
Variations
Easier
Play with 2 teams and 2 very different songs.
Standard
Four teams, four songs and 30-second clips.
Harder
Cut clips to 20 seconds and use songs from the same genre so they're harder to tell apart.
Adaptations
- Students with limited mobility can run the music and keep score, or do an upper-body version of the task.
- For students with hearing loss, hold up a card in the color of the team that should enter.
- Each team decides which members do more or fewer reps based on fitness.
Learning goals
- Pick out one specific sound cue among several.
- Warm up with a mix of strength and travel tasks.
- Coordinate with a team to finish a task on time.
Equipment for a class of 25
- pinnies: 25
- cones: 4

Teacher tip
You can have each team suggest its song the class before and screen it ahead of time. Build the clip playlist in random order beforehand so you don't waste time searching.
