Which Format Fits You? A Walk with AMRAP, EMOM and Tabata Stops
A walking cooldown around the perimeter with three stops, one per training format, where students discuss who each one is for and what it's good for. At the end, everyone picks the format they'd include in their personal plan and explains why.

How to play
- Easy walk around the perimeter, recalling the formats covered this term (2 min).
- AMRAP stop: in small groups, one advantage and one risk of the format (for example, starting too fast) (2 min).
- EMOM stop: one advantage, one risk and when we'd use it (2 min).
- Tabata stop: one advantage, one risk and what it takes to make it safe (2 min).
- Pick one: each student stands by the sign of the format they'd use in their plan, and one or two per sign explain why (2 min).
Rules
- Walk, don't run, between stops.
- A different person speaks at each stop.
- There's no right format: the reasoning is what counts.
- Respect everyone's choice, no mocking.
Variations
Easier
Only two stops and one question each.
Standard
Three stops with an advantage and a risk.
Harder
Add a fourth "for time" stop, and each group drafts a 5-min workout in its chosen format.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: stops are placed closer together, or the student goes in a wheelchair with a partner alongside.
- Hearing impairment: each sign has that stop's questions written on it.
- Shy students: they can answer on a sticky note on the sign.
Learning goals
- Compare training formats with sound judgment.
- Link each format to goals and risks.
- Make decisions about your own physical activity plan.
Equipment for a class of 25
- cones: 3
- signs: 3
Teacher tip
Laminate the signs and reuse them all year. It's a strong cooldown after a few group-fitness classes because it wraps up the unit with a personal decision.
