How to play
- A center zone plus two zones ten meters away: true on the right, false on the left, marked with cones. Easy jog between zones to learn the layout (2 min).
- Statements 1-4 with jogging and side shuffles. Examples: 'Warming up raises muscle temperature' (T); 'If it's hot out, you don't need to warm up' (F). Explain each answer in one sentence (3 min).
- Statements 5-8 with high knees and butt kicks. Examples: 'A warm-up should go from low to higher intensity' (T); 'The longer, the better' (F) (3 min).
- Each group of four proposes a statement, reads it, and the class runs to its answer (2 min).
Rules
- Wait in the center until the statement is finished.
- If unsure, you can go to the center and decide on a count of three.
- Don't laugh at wrong answers: explain the answer to everyone.
- Reach the zones without pushing or cutting inside.
Variations
Easier
Very clear statements and jogging only.
Standard
Statements like the examples with varied moves.
Harder
Add an 'it depends' zone; anyone there must explain what it depends on.
Adaptations
- Deaf or hard-of-hearing students: statements are also shown on a whiteboard or tablet.
- Wheelchair users: zones are moved in to six meters and they travel freely.
- Students with reading or comprehension difficulties: a partner restates each sentence in other words.
Learning goals
- Know the basic reasons for warming up.
- Correct common myths about warming up.
- Activate the body with varied movement.
Equipment for a class of 25
- cones: 8
Teacher tip
Prepare ten short statements with no word tricks. Keep each explanation to one sentence so the group doesn't cool down.
