Wall-Rebound Adapted Padel Doubles
Adapted padel doubles on a court marked against a smooth school wall that acts as the back glass: the ball may bounce off it after hitting the ground. Students learn to wait for the rebound, hit at waist height, and work with a partner.
How to play
- Use cones to mark 33 x 20 ft courts with a smooth wall as one end and a low net (about 30 in) across the middle. Groups of four, two pairs per court (3 min).
- Cooperative rally: the wall-side pair lets the ball bounce, hit the wall and plays it off the rebound. Serve underhand below the waist, after a bounce, diagonally (4 min).
- Play no-ad games to 4: the ball must bounce on the ground before touching the wall; if it hits the wall directly, the point goes to the other pair (6 min).
- Every two games pairs switch sides so both play with the wall, and waiting pairs replace the pair that lost (6 min).
- Wrap-up: each player names one good play by their partner and one rally where the wall helped (3 min).
Rules
- One bounce on the ground only; then the ball may hit the wall once before it is returned.
- Partners call "Mine" or "Yours" before hitting.
- Nobody gets within 3 ft of the wall with the paddle raised, and the wrist strap is always on.
Variations
Easier
Allow two bounces and lower the net to 2 ft.
Standard
One ground bounce plus an optional wall rebound in games to 4.
Harder
A point won off a wall rebound is worth double and the serve must go to the corner.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: play on the non-wall side in a smaller zone with two bounces allowed.
- Hearing impairment: agree on hand signals for "Mine" and "Yours" and raise a hand to start each point.
- Advanced players: return every ball coming off the wall with a backhand.
Learning goals
- Wait for the wall rebound and get into a balanced hitting position.
- Coordinate with a partner through communication on every point.
- Respect opponents and the score in a net-and-wall game.
Equipment for a class of 25
- padel paddles: 24
- tennis balls: 18
- low nets: 3

Teacher tip
Check the wall for ledges or low windows ahead of time. Students tend to crowd the wall, so mark a cone waiting line 6 ft away.
