Three Little Pigs Movement Story
A full movement story in which students live the tale of the Three Little Pigs: they move like the characters, build houses with equipment and stand up to the huffing, puffing wolf. It develops body expression, basic locomotor skills and small-group cooperation.
How to play
- Set the scene in a semicircle (2 min): everyone is a little pig leaving home to build a house of their own.
- Walk through the woods (4 min): students follow a cone path on all fours, hopping or jogging while you narrate what they see.
- Straw house (4 min): groups of 5 make a house from 4 hoops. When the teacher-wolf huffs and puffs, the house "blows away" and they log-roll to a mat.
- Stick house (4 min): groups outline a house with poles; at the puff they slowly drop to their knees like chopped trees and crawl to another house.
- Brick house (5 min): the whole class links arms on the mats to form a wall the wolf cannot move.
- Finale (6 min): they scare the wolf off the chimney with gestures and sounds, dance to celebrate and share how they felt while the wolf was blowing.
Rules
- The wolf only blows and gestures: no grabbing or hard pushing.
- Roll and crawl only on mats or clear areas, without bumping into others.
- Everyone helps build, and nobody is left outside a house.
Variations
Easier
Model every movement first and narrate with long pauses so everyone can copy.
Standard
Tell the whole story with all three houses and the teacher as the wolf.
Harder
Let students take turns as the wolf and have each group invent its own way to escape each house.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: the student is the builder who places hoops and poles and acts out the story with arms, face and voice.
- Autism: preview the story with pictures of the three houses and give a heads-up before each huff.
- Lower fitness: shorten the woods path and allow rest breaks in the brick house.
Learning goals
- Portray story characters and feelings with the body.
- Explore varied locomotor movements: crawling, rolling, hopping and jogging.
- Cooperate in small groups to build and protect the house.
Equipment for a class of 25
- hoops: 20
- poles: 20
- mats: 6
- cones: 10
Teacher tip
Play a clumsy, funny wolf rather than a scary one: young kids love being able to beat it. Set up each house's equipment in a different corner beforehand so the story keeps flowing.
