The Best Point in Slow Motion
In pairs or fours, students reenact the best point of the day in slow motion, with no ball or paddles. It lowers intensity while they consciously review strokes and positioning.
How to play
- Each pair quietly recalls the best point they played today: who served, which shots happened and how it ended (2 min).
- They act it out in slow motion, no ball, exaggerating each stroke's preparation and follow-through (3 min).
- Two or three volunteer pairs show theirs; the group tries to name the strokes (3 min).
- Each pair names one stroke from their point they want to repeat next class (2 min).
Rules
- Slow, controlled movements: no jumping or running.
- Only volunteers perform; everyone else watches quietly.
- Comment on the stroke, never on anyone's body or clumsiness.
Variations
Easier
A single stroke in slow motion instead of a whole point.
Standard
A full point of three to five shots.
Harder
A doubles point with four players in synchronized slow motion and a narrator.
Adaptations
- Deaf or hard-of-hearing students: guesses are given with stroke gestures or in writing.
- Limited mobility: act out strokes with trunk and arms from the chair.
- Shy students: take part within their pair without performing for the group.
Learning goals
- Bring arousal down after play.
- Review strokes with attention to form.
- Remember and value a good play of their own.
Teacher tip
This works after any net-game lesson. If the group is self-conscious, go first with an over-the-top slow-motion replay of one of your own misses: it breaks the ice.
