Student-Made QR Code Warm-Up Stations
In an earlier class, each group records a short video of one warm-up move and creates a QR code for it; today the codes are taped to cones and the class completes the circuit by scanning them. It combines independent warm-ups with responsible use of digital tools.
How to play
- In the previous class, each group of four uses a school device to record a 20-second video explaining one move and creates a QR code with an approved tool; the teacher checks it first.
- Tape each QR code to a piece of cardstock on a cone and set up six stations around the gym, numbered by intensity, about 10 yards apart.
- Each group gets a device and starts at the station matching its group number, 1 through 6.
- At each station, one student scans, the group watches the video once, and everyone does the move for 1 minute; the scanner changes at each station.
- On the signal, groups jog to the next station; they complete all six in about 9 minutes, with the highest-intensity station at the end of each lap.
- In the last minute, each group votes with their fingers for the clearest video.
Rules
- Rest the device on the cone during the exercise, never in a pocket or in your hand.
- Videos show only the exercise, no faces if someone doesn't want to appear, and are deleted at the end of the unit.
- Safety: watch the video standing still, then do the move; never run while looking at a screen.
Variations
Easier
The teacher records the videos, and students just scan and do the moves.
Standard
Each group creates its own video and QR code, and the class completes the circuit.
Harder
Each video must include a common mistake and its fix, and the group at the station has to spot it.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: every video also shows a seated or supported version.
- Hearing impairment: videos include captions or on-screen text with the key cue.
- Fitness level: each station offers an easier and a harder version.
Learning goals
- Use digital tools responsibly to support physical activity.
- Complete a full warm-up independently by following video instructions.
- Communicate exercise technique in a short, clear format.
Equipment for a class of 25
- tablets or smartphones: 6
- cones: 6
- cardstock: 6
Teacher tip
Check before class that every code opens its video, and keep a printed backup of each move in case the Wi-Fi fails. Follow your school's policy on photos and devices.
