Sport Pose Freeze Jog
Students jog to music, and when it stops they freeze in the skill pose for the sport the teacher calls out; when the music starts again, they move with that sport's footwork. It works body control, balance and a sport-specific warm-up.
How to play
- Explain 5 poses: basketball shot follow-through, tennis serve trophy position, goalie ready stance, long jump in flight and volleyball ready position. Practice them for 1 minute.
- With the music on, everyone jogs freely around the court using all the space.
- When the music stops, the teacher calls a sport and everyone freezes in that pose for 3 seconds.
- When the music returns, students spend 20 seconds moving with that sport's footwork: defensive slides, adjustment steps, side shuffles or high knees.
- Repeat 8 stops in about 4 minutes. Halfway through, a student takes over and picks the sport.
- On the last stop, partners correct each other's pose, then finish with 1 minute of easy jogging.
Rules
- Hold the pose completely still for 3 seconds without losing balance.
- Jog in all directions, always looking where you're going.
- Safety: keep two arm lengths from others during footwork.
- Students may suggest new sports if they explain the pose first.
Variations
Easier
Use only three sports and hold the pose with no set time.
Standard
Five sports with a 3-second pose and 20 seconds of sport-specific footwork.
Harder
Hold the pose on one leg or with eyes closed, and call two sports back to back.
Adaptations
- Students with limited mobility show the poses with the upper body and do the footwork with wheelchair turns or pushes.
- For students with hearing loss, hold up picture cards of each sport when the music stops.
- Less-fit students speed-walk between stops.
Learning goals
- Reproduce basic skill poses from different sports.
- Keep balance and body control when stopping suddenly.
- Warm up with footwork from each sport.

Teacher tip
Match the sports to the unit coming up so the warm-up already preps the lesson's skills. Ask students to exaggerate the pose so it's easy to see.
