Slow Mirror: Study-Room Stretches You Copy
In pairs, one student leads a very slow sequence of stretches you could do next to your study desk while the other copies it like a mirror. It brings the pace down and leaves each student with a sequence to use at home.

How to play
- Demo: the teacher mirrors a student for 30 s, showing the target speed, so slow that an onlooker can't tell when each move starts (1 min).
- Round 1: the leader links stretches for neck, shoulders, chest and wrists, standing or seated on the chair; the partner copies in sync (2 min).
- Round 2: switch roles and add hips and legs, using the chair for support (2 min).
- Observer challenge: two pairs team up; one mirrors and the other tries to guess who's leading. If they can't, the mirror is good (2 min).
- Wrap-up: each pair keeps the three stretches that felt best and says them out loud (1 min).
Rules
- Slow, continuous moves, no bouncing.
- Stretch to a comfortable pull, never pain.
- If you lean on the chair, it's against the wall or held steady.
- No talking during the mirror: communicate with your eyes.
Variations
Easier
Seated stretches only, and the leader says each change out loud first.
Standard
Standing and seated sequence with no verbal cues.
Harder
Mirror in threes: the leader changes without warning and the third person can only copy the copier.
Adaptations
- Student with a visual impairment: mirror with light palm contact so they can feel the leader's movement.
- Wheelchair user: the sequence is done seated, and the partner sits too.
- Shoulder injury: skip overhead reaches and focus on neck, wrists and legs.
Learning goals
- Lower arousal after exercise.
- Build a stretching sequence that works for study breaks.
- Sharpen focus and non-verbal communication in pairs.
Equipment for a class of 25
- chairs: 15
Teacher tip
In a gym without chairs, benches or the wall work fine. The usual mistake is speeding up between stretches, so keep saying "slower than a clock's hands".
