How to play
- Pairs walk at an easy pace. At cone 1 they read the card: «What makes you go to bed later than you would like?» and talk as they walk (2 min).
- Cone 2: «What do you do in the last half hour before sleep?» (2 min).
- Cone 3: «One small change you could try this week» (2 min).
- Each student writes their change on a sticky note, no name, and sticks it on the wall chart by the exit (2 min).
Rules
- Walk, no passing other pairs.
- What your partner shares stays with the pair.
- You can answer «pass» to any question.
- Notes are anonymous.
Variations
Easier
One question and a spoken pledge.
Standard
Three questions and a sticky note.
Harder
Pairs compare pledges, pick one to try together, and report back next class.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: a shorter route, or seated in a circle with the same questions.
- Deaf or hard-of-hearing students: cards are written, and partners face each other when talking.
- Students with sleep problems or hard situations at home: the teacher acknowledges it is not always in their control and offers a private chat.
Learning goals
- Bring heart rate down while walking.
- Reflect on personal sleep habits.
- Commit to a concrete, realistic change.
Equipment for a class of 25
- cones: 3
- question cards: 3
- sticky notes: 30
- pens: 30
Teacher tip
Leave the chart up for a few weeks and revisit it at the end of the term. Never read notes aloud without removing any detail that could identify someone.
