Silent Sync Partner Warm-Up
Each pair creates an eight-exercise warm-up sequence and performs it in perfect sync, side by side and without talking, while another pair rates their coordination. It warms up the whole body while building nonverbal communication and rhythm control.
How to play
- Make pairs. In 2 minutes, each pair agrees on an eight-exercise warm-up sequence (for example, arm circles, squats, lunges, light hops), 8 reps each.
- Practice (2 min): partners rehearse side by side, about 3 feet apart, matching speed and range of motion. From this point on, no talking.
- Two pairs team up: Pair A performs its full sequence in silence (about 2 min) while Pair B watches.
- Pair B rates sync, progressive exercise order, and range of motion on a 1-5 scale and offers one tip.
- Switch roles: Pair B performs while Pair A watches and rates (2 min).
Rules
- No talking during the sequence: only eye contact, gestures, or a visible breath to start each exercise.
- Start with easy exercises and finish with the more intense ones.
- Safety: keep hops light and leave enough space around you.
Variations
Easier
Use a five-exercise sequence and allow quiet counting.
Standard
Eight exercises in silence, in sync, side by side.
Harder
Partners perform face-to-face as mirror images, and one exercise must travel.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: the pair chooses exercises both can do seated or standing with support.
- Visual impairment: partners hold hands or forearms to feel each other's rhythm.
- Lower fitness: cut reps to five per exercise.
Learning goals
- Coordinate movement with a partner using only nonverbal communication.
- Organize a warm-up sequence with gradually rising intensity.
- Observe and evaluate others' performance using specific criteria.
Teacher tip
Pairs tend to rush; suggest starting each exercise with a visible breath.
