Second Chance: Shot, Rebound, Finish
Attacking situations where one player shoots and another follows up the rebound to finish. It builds anticipation of the second chance and use of the space in front of the net without entering the goalie's crease.
How to play
- Explain: groups of four per goal: shooter, finisher, goalie and collector, who rotate. A finishing zone is marked with cones outside the crease (3 min).
- Shooter from distance with the finisher waiting in the zone: the finish only counts off a rebound from the goalie or post (6 min).
- Add a defender who tries to clear the rebound before the finisher, always without touching stick or body (6 min).
- 2v1 plus goalie: the two attackers decide who shoots and who crashes the rebound; the defender chooses whom to mark (7 min).
- Wrap-up: each group discusses where most rebounds came out and where to stand (3 min).
Rules
- Low shots with a foam ball, since players are near the goalie.
- Nobody enters the goalie's crease; rebounds are played outside it.
- Once the goalie has the ball under control, the play is over.
- Sticks always low, especially on the finish.
Variations
Easier
Finisher with no defender, shooting at an empty goal with a bench that creates rebounds.
Standard
Shot and finish with a defender.
Harder
2v1 with a five-second limit to finish the play.
Adaptations
- Wheelchair users: act as the shooter from a side position, with a teammate crashing the rebound.
- Knee injury: doesn't play goalie; a bench on its side stands in.
- Students lacking confidence: start as collector and as an unguarded finisher.
Learning goals
- Anticipate where rebounds go.
- Take up the finishing space without entering the crease.
- Decide with a partner who shoots and who finishes.
Equipment for a class of 25

- foam balls: 10
- floorball goals: 4
- thin mats: 4
- cones: 12

Teacher tip
Foam balls rebound more than floorball balls, which actually helps this drill. Watch that finishers don't crowd the goalie: mark the crease clearly with cones.
