Seated Hand Choreography in a Circle
Seated in a circle with calm music, the group builds a short choreography using only hands and arms, with each person adding one gesture. It brings heart rate down without losing the creative side and closes the class as a group.
How to play
- Seated in a circle, everyone copies a slow hand gesture suggested by the teacher for eight counts (1 min).
- Taking turns, each student adds an eight-count gesture and the group copies it (2 min).
- After every four additions, the group repeats the growing sequence from the start (1 min).
- The full sequence is performed one last time, slower and slower, ending with hands resting on the knees (2 min).
Rules
- Gestures are soft and slow, with no loud clapping.
- Respect every classmate's gesture with no comments or teasing.
- If someone forgets, the group keeps going and they follow the person next to them.
Variations
Easier
Each addition lasts four counts and only the newest one is repeated.
Standard
Eight-count gestures added up into a group sequence.
Harder
The sequence is performed in canon: each person starts one count after the previous one.
Adaptations
- Visual impairment: sits next to a classmate who briefly describes each new gesture.
- Hearing impairment: sits across from the teacher to follow the beat visually.
- Limited hand mobility: may suggest gestures with the head, shoulders or gaze.
Learning goals
- Cool down while keeping a low-intensity creative task.
- Memorize and reproduce a group sequence.
- Value everyone's contribution to the shared product.

Teacher tip
Pick music at about 70 beats per minute. With 30 students, make two circles of 15 so the sequence does not go on forever.
