Sculptor Stretch: Your Partner Shapes You
In pairs, the sculptor describes a stretch and their partner becomes a living sculpture, adjusted only through spoken cues. It ties stretching to listening and precise language.

How to play
- The sculptor picks a gentle stretch from the teacher's list (hamstrings, quads, chest, calves…) and describes it in words without demonstrating (2 min).
- The sculpture reproduces it and holds 20-30 seconds; the sculptor corrects only with words: 'turn your hip toward me', 'drop your shoulder' (2 min).
- Switch roles with a different stretch (2 min).
- Final challenge: the pair combines two stretches into one shared, stable sculpture without loading weight on each other (2 min).
Rules
- No touching to adjust: words only.
- Pain-free stretching: gentle tension, no bouncing.
- The person stretching is in charge: they can ease off at any moment.
Variations
Easier
The sculptor may demonstrate before describing.
Standard
Verbal description only.
Harder
Describe without naming body parts, using only directions and images.
Adaptations
- Deaf or hard-of-hearing students: the sculptor shows the shape with a quick sketch or with their own body.
- Wheelchair users: pick seated upper-body and posterior-chain stretches.
- Injured students: choose the stretch their physical therapist allows, and their partner helps describe it.
Learning goals
- Stretch the muscle groups that worked.
- Give precise verbal cues about body position.
- Listen to and respect a partner's limits.
Equipment for a class of 25
- mats: 15
Teacher tip
Keep the list of six stretches on a sheet on the floor. The usual shortcut is 'do it like this' with a hand gesture; the whole point is exact vocabulary.
