Pro Team Warm-Up Copycat
Each group watches a short video of a real pro team or elite athlete warming up, identifies its phases and exercises, and adapts it for the class. Students learn to break down professional warm-ups and translate them to a school setting.
How to play
- In the previous class, each group of five finds a 1-3 minute video of a pro team or athlete warming up (soccer, basketball, track, team handball...), and the teacher approves it.
- To start (3 min), each group rewatches its video on a phone and lists the phases (mobility, activation, sport-specific) and 4-5 key exercises.
- Each group adapts the exercises to the available space and equipment, cutting anything that needs machines or advanced technique.
- Do it (6 min): each group runs its version of the warm-up in its section of the field; one member checks the video to make sure the order is followed.
- Share-out (3 min): two groups explain what surprised them about the pro warm-up and which exercise they'd add to class.
Rules
- Phones are only for watching the video and then go on the bench.
- Scale the intensity: what a pro does may be too much for the group.
- Safety: each group stays in its coned area so no one wanders into another group.
Variations
Easier
The teacher picks one video for the whole class and everyone identifies the phases together.
Standard
Each group analyzes a different video and adapts its warm-up.
Harder
At the end, groups swap and each one does the warm-up another group adapted.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: the student focuses on analyzing the video and leading the group, and does upper-body modifications.
- Hearing loss: pick videos with captions or without spoken explanation.
- Lower fitness: offer the easiest version of the activation exercises.
Learning goals
- Analyze the structure of a professional warm-up from a video.
- Adapt elite-level exercises to the group's ability and equipment.
- Use digital resources responsibly to plan physical activity.
Equipment for a class of 25

Teacher tip
Keep two or three backup videos in case a group can't find a good one.
