Partner Stretches and Specific Shout-Outs
In pairs, students do three gentle assisted stretches, and while one stretches, the other gives a specific shout-out about something they did well in the lesson. It works as a cool-down and builds the ability to give and receive specific positive feedback, the basis of assertive communication on a team.
How to play
- Explain the rules of assisted stretching: the partner only supports, the person stretching sets the limit by saying «enough», and model a specific shout-out: «Today I saw you...» (1 min).
- Lying hamstring stretch with the partner holding the heel, 30 seconds per leg; meanwhile, the helper gives their shout-out (2 min).
- Standing chest stretch with the partner gently guiding the elbows back, 30 seconds each, with a new shout-out (1 min).
- Side-lying quad stretch with the partner supporting at the knee, 30 seconds per leg (2 min).
- Each person writes on the worksheet the shout-out they received and one they'd like to earn next lesson (2 min).
Rules
- The person stretching is in charge: the partner never pushes further than asked.
- Stretch without bouncing and breathe calmly.
- A shout-out must describe something specific you saw, not general praise like «you're really good».
- Anyone who doesn't want contact does the stretch unassisted next to their partner.
Variations
Easier
Stretch without assistance and choose the shout-out from a list of phrases.
Standard
Three assisted stretches with a specific shout-out during each.
Harder
Besides the shout-out, each person offers one suggestion for improvement using an assertive format.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: the student does upper-body stretches in the wheelchair with the partner's help.
- Autism or touch sensitivity: the student stretches independently and gives and receives the shout-out in writing.
- Hearing impairment: partners face each other whenever possible, and shout-outs can be written on the worksheet.
Learning goals
- Cool down with safe partner stretches.
- Give specific, sincere shout-outs to classmates.
- Accept positive feedback and reflect on one's own contribution to the group.

Teacher tip
Move desks and chairs aside to make room, and pair students who worked together during the lesson. If the room is small, swap the lying stretch for a seated one.
