How to play

  1. Zones: split the court in front of the wall into four corners with cones; the goal is to pull your opponent away from the middle (3 min).
  2. Directed rally: in pairs, hit alternating corners in a set order (right short, left long, and so on) (6 min).
  3. Match 1 with observer: games to 7; the observer marks the zone of each of their player's shots on the sheet (8 min).
  4. Reading the data: players check whether they repeat zones and pick a pattern for the next match, such as alternating short and long (4 min).
  5. Match 2 using the pattern, observed again; points won in a corner count double (9 min).

Rules

Variations

Easier

A narrower court and two bounces allowed.

Standard

Games to 7 with observation and a chosen pattern.

Harder

Points only count if the winning shot goes to a different corner than the previous shot.

Teacher tip

Wooden fronton paddles are cheap at sporting goods stores; thick beach paddles also work. Common mistake: always hitting hard to the middle; the sheet makes it obvious without you having to say so.
