Opposite Statues: Freeze in the Reverse

How to play
- Easy jog around the space. On a clap, free statue, still for three seconds (2 min).
- The teacher calls a word and everyone freezes in its opposite: tall/low, open/closed, big/small, straight/curved, fast/slow (in slow motion) (2 min).
- In pairs: one calls the word and the other freezes in the opposite. Switch roles every five words (2 min).
- Opposite emotions: happy/sad, brave/scared, calm/nervous. Freeze with the whole body, not just the face (2 min).
Rules
- When you freeze, keep a stable base: no jumping into statues.
- Stay an arm's length from everyone.
- If someone gets it wrong, laugh and keep going: nobody is out.
- Low statues come from bending the knees, not dropping to the floor.
Variations
Easier
Only shape word pairs (tall/low, open/closed).
Standard
Shape and speed pairs, jogging between statues.
Harder
Statues must be held on one support point or on three, as the teacher calls.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: opposites with arms, trunk, and head from the wheelchair.
- Visual impairment: they work with a partner guide in a clear area.
- Ankle or knee injury: statues on two feet, no deep knee bends.
Learning goals
- Warm up the body with changes of posture and level.
- Improve attention and reaction speed.
- Control balance in varied positions.
Teacher tip
Call words quickly and mix repeats with new ones so students can't predict. Emotion words work best at the end, once the group has loosened up.
