Numbers in Charge: Each Number, an Action That Switches
The class moves around the space and each number the teacher calls means an action; once it's automatic, the meanings swap. It warms up the body while training attention and response control.

How to play
- The whole class walks freely around the court. Introduce the commands: 1 walk, 2 stop, 3 two-foot jump, 4 clap (2 min).
- The teacher calls numbers faster and faster; students move from walking to an easy jog between commands (2 min).
- Swap 1 and 2: now 1 means stop and 2 means walk. Mistakes get laughs, not penalties (2 min).
- Also swap 3 and 4 and add 5: touch the floor with one hand (2 min).
- In pairs, one calls numbers and the other responds; switch halfway and finish with ankle and shoulder mobility (2 min).
Rules
- Look ahead while jogging to avoid collisions.
- Jump in place and land softly.
- Nobody is out: if you make a mistake, keep playing.
Variations
Easier
Only three numbers, no swaps.
Standard
Four numbers with two swaps and one new number.
Harder
The teacher shows one number with fingers and says a different one out loud; the fingers win.
Adaptations
- Deaf or hard-of-hearing students: show numbers with fingers or large cards.
- Wheelchair users: jumping becomes raising the arms and touching the floor becomes touching the wheel.
- Students with attention difficulties: carry a card listing the current commands.
Learning goals
- Warm up gradually.
- Train attention and response control.
- Have fun with your own mistakes.
Teacher tip
Build the pace gradually and leave long pauses between numbers: that's when most mistakes happen. Write the commands on a whiteboard so the swaps are clear.
