Mountain Pose Partner Alignment Check
In pairs, one student holds yoga mountain pose while the other checks five alignment points from head to toe using a card, then they switch roles. It builds standing posture habits, observation skills, and respectful communication.
How to play
- Pairs spread out; each pair gets a card with five points: feet parallel, knees soft, pelvis neutral, shoulders down, crown of the head lifting (0.5 min).
- The teacher demonstrates mountain pose in front of everyone and points out the five checkpoints one by one, also showing the common mistake for each (1 min).
- Student A stands in mountain pose with eyes closed, breathing slowly; student B looks from the front and the side and quietly notes which points are on target (1.5 min).
- Student B gives one verbal correction (for example, "drop your shoulders") and A adjusts, holding the corrected pose for three more breaths (1 min).
- Switch roles and repeat the last two steps (2 min).
- Closing: everyone in mountain pose at once, eyes closed, five breaths while checking the five points on their own (1 min).
Rules
- Corrections are verbal only, with no touching.
- Give one correction at a time in a kind tone.
- The student holding the pose may open their eyes if they feel dizzy.
- No comments on anyone's body beyond the posture checkpoints.
Variations
Easier
Check only three points: feet, shoulders, and head.
Standard
Check all five points and give one correction per turn.
Harder
Also run the check in another standing pose, like tree, using the same five points.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: check seated alignment with adapted points (feet on the floor, pelvis, shoulders, and head).
- Autism or shyness: allow the student to point to the item on the card instead of saying it out loud.
- Comprehension difficulties: use a card with pictures of correct and incorrect posture for each point.
Learning goals
- Identify the elements of correct standing posture.
- Observe and communicate a correction respectfully.
- Apply postural alignment to everyday life.

Teacher tip
Body image is a sensitive topic at this age: stress that partners only look at the five points on the card, and pair students with people they trust.
