Mobility Log: Stretch, Rate and Plan the Week
A cool-down in which each student stretches the areas worked in the session and then fills in their mobility log with how they feel, any aches and a short plan for home. It turns the end of class into a moment of managing their own health.
How to play
- Each student picks three static stretches for the areas worked hardest today and holds them 30 seconds per side at an intensity of 5 to 6 out of 10 (5 min).
- Fill in the log with the session's perceived effort, stiffness by area on a 0-to-10 scale and whether any aches showed up (3 min).
- Write down two 10-minute mobility sessions to do at home this week, with day, time and specific exercises (1 min).
- Share one idea from your plan with your partner and agree to ask each other next session whether you stuck to it (1 min).
Rules
- Stretch without bouncing and never into pain.
- Any ache written down is also mentioned to the teacher on the way out.
- The log is personal; only the teacher looks at it, with the student's permission.
- Keep the room calm while people write.
Variations
Easier
Provide a fixed list of stretches and a log with boxes to check.
Standard
Three chosen stretches, a log of how they feel and a two-session weekly plan.
Harder
The student checks in the log whether they followed last week's plan and adjusts the new one.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: chooses upper-body stretches in the wheelchair and may record the log as audio.
- Dyslexia: uses a log with visual scales and few words.
- Autism: the log always follows the same structure and question order.
Learning goals
- Independently choose stretches that suit the session just done.
- Record and assess their own physical sensations.
- Plan mobility practice outside school hours.
Equipment for a class of 25
- exercise mats: 28
- worksheets: 28
Teacher tip
Check the logs every two weeks and quietly talk with anyone not following their plan to adjust it, not to scold them.
