How to play
- Log roll: lie with arms stretched overhead and roll straight to the end of the row (2 min).
- Tucked side roll: knees to chest, roll sideways without drifting (2 min).
- Log roll holding a foam ball between the feet without dropping it (2 min).
- In pairs: roll side by side holding hands and finish together (2 min).
Rules
- Start when the person ahead has finished the row.
- Arms straight and next to the ears in the log roll.
- If you roll off the mat, walk back to your line.
- Never roll toward an area where someone is standing.
Variations
Easier
Short two-mat rows and free tucked rolls.
Standard
Four-mat rows, straight and staying on the mats.
Harder
Log roll with eyes closed and a partner calling the direction.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: assisted rolls with a partner guiding the hips.
- Gets dizzy easily: three rolls then a seated rest, or does tucked rocks in place.
- Low vision: row edged with bright tape and a guiding voice.
Learning goals
- Rotate on the long axis without losing the line.
- Activate abs and glutes.
- Coordinate with a partner.
Equipment for a class of 25
- mats: 15
- foam balls: 8
Teacher tip
Set rows side by side with a 2 m aisle. Typical mistake: bending at the hips and veering off; ask for a "pencil" body.
