Leaderless Trios: Switch Stretches Together Without Talking
In trios, everyone holds the same stretch and must switch to the next one at exactly the same moment, with no talking and no leader. Students stretch calmly while learning to read the group.

How to play
- Trios stand in a triangle facing each other. Out loud, agree on a list of four standing stretches (1 min).
- Hold the first for 15 seconds. With no words or obvious signals, the trio tries to switch to the next together (2 min).
- Go through the list twice; after each switch, everyone rates the timing from 1 to 3 with their fingers (2 min).
- Challenge: two trios join up and repeat the sequence as a group of six (2 min).
- Quick chat: what signal did you use without noticing? (1 min).
Rules
- No leader: if someone directs with clear gestures, redo the switch.
- Hold each stretch with no pain and no bouncing.
- You may put a hand on the wall during balance stretches.
Variations
Easier
One audible breath is allowed as a switch signal.
Standard
Four stretches, no talking and no signals.
Harder
Eyes closed for the last round, using only the sound of movement.
Adaptations
- Visually impaired students: the trio holds hands or shoulders when the stretch allows, to feel the switch.
- Wheelchair users: the list includes trunk, arm and neck stretches everyone can do the same way.
- Injured students: swap in an equivalent stretch and only sync the moment of switching.
Learning goals
- Stretch the main muscle groups calmly.
- Read the group without words.
- Cooperate without needing a leader.
Teacher tip
Pick familiar stretches so the only challenge is the timing. A spontaneous signal (a glance, a small nod) usually appears; discussing it at the end really hooks them.
