Kim's Game with PE Equipment
About ten pieces of PE equipment are laid out on a mat; students study them, close their eyes, and then figure out which item disappeared or moved. It builds visual memory, attention to detail and calm after exercise.
How to play
- Place one mat in the center with 10 assorted items (cone, ball, baton, hoop, scarf, shuttlecock and so on) and seat the class around it in a half circle (1 min).
- Students study the items silently for 30 seconds while breathing slowly (0.5 min).
- On your signal, everyone closes their eyes and lowers their head; remove one item or swap two.
- When eyes open, partners agree on what changed, whisper it to each other, and raise their hands when ready (1 min).
- Play five or six rounds, raising the challenge: remove two items, swap colors or turn one around (4 min).
- In the last round, a pair of students makes the changes and the rest guess (0.5 min).
Rules
- While items are being changed, eyes stay closed and heads stay down.
- Answer with your partner in a whisper; don't shout the answer.
- Nobody touches the equipment on the mat.
- Stay seated the whole game.
Variations
Easier
Use only 6 items and 45 seconds to study them.
Standard
10 items, 30 seconds to study and one change per round.
Harder
15 items; after the mat is covered, pairs write the full list from memory.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: place the mat on a table or bench at wheelchair height.
- Students with visual impairments: play by touch with 5 items that have very different textures.
- Students who find it easy: they become the "magician" who sets up the hardest changes.
Learning goals
- Improve visual memory and attention to detail.
- Agree with a partner before answering.
- Learn and use the correct names of PE equipment.

Teacher tip
Use it to review equipment names and to collect gear at the end of class. With a large class, set up two mats with a student in charge of each.
