Joint-Saver Tag: Mobility Sets You Free
A tag warm-up where tagged players hold a mobility drill until a teammate frees them by doing one with them. It raises the heart rate and runs through every major joint.

How to play
- Quick teacher-led mobility: ankles, knees, hips, shoulders and neck (2 min).
- Four taggers in pinnies. Tagged players freeze and do hip circles; they're freed when someone does five arm circles with them (3 min).
- New taggers. The waiting drill becomes ankle circles and the rescue drill becomes trunk twists (2 min).
- Final round: the rescuer chooses and demonstrates the rescue drill; no repeating the previous one (2 min).
- Easy jog around the area, calling out the joints worked (1 min).
Rules
- Tag with a hand on the shoulder or back, no pushing.
- A rescue counts only after all five reps.
- Switch taggers every two minutes so no one is 'it' for long.
Variations
Easier
Two taggers and a smaller area for quick rescues.
Standard
Four taggers on half a court.
Harder
Six taggers, and a rescue requires two different drills.
Adaptations
- Wheelchair users: tag or get tagged with a pool noodle; their drills are trunk and arm versions.
- Deaf or hard-of-hearing students: round changes are signaled by raising a pinnie.
- Students with low endurance: they can be a permanent rescuer in a central zone who can't be tagged.
Learning goals
- Raise the heart rate gradually.
- Practice mobility of the main joints.
- Make quick decisions to dodge and rescue.
Equipment for a class of 25
- pinnies: 6
Teacher tip
Mark the area clearly with cones or court lines. If the game stalls with too many frozen players, remove a tagger instead of extending the round.
