Indoor Mini Golf Course
A six-hole mini golf course built from gym equipment: each hole is a plastic cup on its side, with obstacles such as benches and cone slaloms. It builds soft, accurate striking, force control and self-control while waiting for a turn.
How to play
- Build 6 holes with the class (5 min): a cup on its side as the hole, a cone as the tee and one obstacle per hole (bench to bank off, cone slalom, narrow gate).
- Demonstrate (2 min): two-hand grip, short pendulum swing, stick always below the knees.
- Make 6 groups of 4 or 5; each group starts at a different hole and each player has a ball.
- Taking turns, each player putts until the ball is in the cup or up to 6 strokes; the group counts strokes out loud.
- When the whole group is done, they wait for the signal and rotate: about 2.5 min per hole (15 min).
- Wrap-up (3 min): each group suggests a change to make its last hole harder, tests it and shares its total strokes.
Rules
- The stick never goes above the knees.
- Waiting players stand behind the tee, away from the hole.
- Only swing when the whole group is still.
- Count your own strokes honestly.
Variations
Easier
Hitting the cup counts and the hardest obstacles are removed.
Standard
Six holes with obstacles and a 6-stroke maximum.
Harder
Required bank shots where marked and a set par for each hole.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: the student plays seated with a shorter stick on flat holes.
- Students with autism: a card at each hole shows its number and a picture of the obstacle.
- Skill level: players may start from a forward tee marked with a different cone.
Learning goals
- Strike with control, adjusting force to the distance.
- Plan the path and bank shots off the bench.
- Wait their turn and keep an honest stroke count.
Equipment for a class of 25
- hockey sticks: 12
- tennis balls: 25
- plastic cups: 12
- benches: 2
- cones: 20
Teacher tip
The knee rule is the key to safety: anyone who breaks it adds a stroke. Keep spare cups handy because they crush easily.
