Guided Relaxation with a Nature Audio Story
Guided relaxation with an audio story that combines nature sounds such as the ocean, a forest or rain with a soft narration. It helps students cool down, learn to relax and connect with pleasant feelings.
How to play
- Set up the audio and speakers at low volume beforehand. Students lie on their backs on mats with eyes closed (1 minute).
- Start with three slow breaths, breathing in through the nose and letting the air out slowly (1 minute).
- Play the audio story: a narration that takes students to a natural setting with background sounds (5 minutes).
- During the audio, keep breathing slowly and notice how heavy the body feels on the mat (part of the audio time).
- When it ends, wake up gradually: wiggle fingers and toes, stretch, roll to the side and sit up (1.5 minutes).
- Quick share: each student says one word about how they feel or what they imagined (1.5 minutes).
Rules
- Total silence during the audio.
- Stay on your own mat without touching others.
- Keep the volume low and steady so nobody gets startled.
- Get up slowly by rolling to the side at the end.
Variations
Easier
A 4-minute audio with continuous narration.
Standard
The full 5–6 minute audio with narration and sounds.
Harder
Nature sounds only, no narration, with each student imagining their own setting.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: do it seated in a chair with the back supported and eyes closed.
- Anxiety or autism: eyes open, a spot near the wall and a heads-up about the kinds of sounds to avoid surprises.
- Students who are deaf or hard of hearing: hand out the narration script to read, then close their eyes and imagine it.
Learning goals
- Learn to relax with the help of sound.
- Cool down after the lesson's effort.
- Associate nature with feelings of well-being.
Equipment for a class of 25

Teacher tip
Listen to the whole audio before using it: some include loud sounds (thunder, crashing waves) that startle students. Keep a backup audio downloaded in case the internet connection fails.
