Group Acrosport Pyramid with Mount and Dismount Routine
Groups of six to eight design and build a two-level acrosport pyramid with a choreographed entrance, an 8-second stable hold and a controlled dismount. Students work on cooperation, body control and safe stunting habits.
How to play
- Review with the whole class the hand grips, safe contact points (the base's hips and shoulders) and the spotter's job (3 min).
- Form groups of 6-8 on two mats pushed together and assign roles: bases, flyers and one or two spotters who stay on the floor (2 min).
- Each group picks or designs a two-level pyramid with at least three linked partner or trio stunts and tests it without music (7 min).
- Groups add an 8-count entrance to the mat and a set build order: bases first, then flyers, on the spotter's "Up!" call (5 min).
- They rehearse the full pyramid with an 8-second hold and a reverse-order dismount, flyers first, ending in a final pose (4 min).
- Each group performs to music while the class shares one strength and one tip (4 min).
Rules
- Never step on the base's lower back or neck; feet and knees go only on hips and shoulders.
- At least one spotter watches the flyers the entire time they are up.
- If anyone calls "Down!", the whole pyramid comes down calmly.
Variations
Easier
Keep it to partner stunts lined up side by side with one shared group pose.
Standard
Build a two-level pyramid with three linked stunts, an 8-count entrance and a controlled dismount.
Harder
Add a transition between two different pyramids in which flyers touch the floor only once.
Adaptations
- Limited mobility: the student can be a seated base for arm stunts or call the counts as spotter-choreographer.
- Shyness: let the student choose the spotter or base role and let groups rehearse facing the wall.
- Fitness level: students with less strength act as light flyers or as tabletop bases holding little weight.
Learning goals
- Build a stable pyramid using safe contact points and clear roles.
- Coordinate the build and dismount with teammates using clear calls.
- Give other groups constructive feedback.
Equipment for a class of 25
- mats: 8
- music: 1
- speakers: 1
Teacher tip
Check every pyramid before flyers go up and do not allow a third level. Correct any weight on the lower back immediately.
