Goal Walk: Partner Talk Down the Straight
In pairs, students walk the straight while answering three questions about the track session, with a stretch along the way. It brings the heart rate down and helps them reflect on personal progress without talking about times.
How to play
- Walking the straight in pairs: each shares one thing that went better today (2 min).
- Walking back: one thing that was hard and why they think so (2 min).
- Standing still, calf stretch leaning on the partner while each says a goal for next session (2 min).
- In a circle, anyone who wants to shares their goal out loud, without mentioning times (2 min).
Rules
- Listen without interrupting or judging.
- No talk about times or who was fastest.
- Sharing in the circle is optional.
- Walk at an easy pace, no racing.
Variations
Easier
Only two questions and no closing circle.
Standard
Three questions, stretch and optional circle.
Harder
Partners sum up each other's goal for the group in one sentence, with permission.
Adaptations
- Students with visual impairments: walk arm-in-arm with their partner.
- Deaf students or students with language difficulties: show the questions on cards; they can answer with gestures or in writing.
- Shy students: share only with their partner.
Learning goals
- Reflect on personal progress.
- Set a specific personal goal.
- Listen respectfully to someone else.
Teacher tip
Make the pairs yourself so they're not always the same. Common mistake: talk drifts to who won; redirect with "And what did you learn?"
